Kantha Quilt

I adore Kantha Quilts. Kantha means quilt of recycled rag. They have a long and distinguished heritage and are traditionally associated with rural women of the Bengal region in India. Made from layers of old sari joined together with a simple hand running stitch.

I got this from Spitalfields Market the other weekend. These are something I can see myself buying more of. I love the fact that they are recycled from unusable old saris. Be sure to buy a truly recycled vintage sari one rather than a reproduction. You can tell this is very old as it has many imperfections, but that makes it even more beautiful.
